Maciej Staszewski

Guitarist and composer born in Łódź in 1984. In 2003, he graduated with honours from the Henryk Wieniawski State High Music School in Łódź in the class of Małgorzata Sztern-Dana, MA. He studied at the Grażyna and Kiejstut Bacewicz Academy of Music in Łódź, from which he graduated in the class of classical guitar of Prof. Jerzy Nalepka (2008) and in the composition class of Prof. Jerzy Bauer (2009).

As a soloist and composer, on a number of occasions he has participated in international festivals, including: the Warsaw Autumn International Festival of Contemporary Music, the Ad Libitum International Festival of Improvised Music, the Tansman 2012 International Festival of Music Individualities, the ISCM World Music Days, several times as part of the “Musica Moderna” sessions and as part of nationwide Polish guitar sessions.

As a soloist, Maciej Staszewski has worked with Polish orchestras, including the “Łódź Strings” Orchestra, Polish Camerata, Chamber Orchestra of the Academy of Music in Łódź, the Beethoven Academy Orchestra, or the PRIMUZ String Orchestra of the Academy of Music in Łódź. He is also dedicated to improvised music, taking part in free improvisation projects. As a soloist, he has performed in Europe, Canada, USA, and China.
He is an author of guitar, piano, chamber music, choral, and electroacoustic compositions.

Since 2008, he has been a lecturer at his home university, currently as an assistant professor. In 2013, he obtained a doctoral degree in musical arts, in 2017 – a postdoctoral degree. He is the deputy dean of the Instrumental Department of the Grażyna and Kiejstut Bacewicz Academy of Music in Łódź in the term of 2016-2020; since 2018, he has been the head of the Chair of Performance of Contemporary Music, Accordion, Guitar, and Harp of that university.
